About Freshwater Biome

Freshwater Biome: This Biome includes lakes, rivers, ponds, streams and wetlands. However, wetlands aren't really considered to be freshwater. The water has less than 1% of salt concentration. Some freshwater biomes include The Great Lakes and the Amazon River. The water is even fresh enough to drink. Many animals live near freshwater because it contains the food they need in order to survive.

Tourist Attractions

Why go to the desert with those hot temperatures where you sweat all day. The temperatures in deserts reach up to 113 degrees fahrenheit. When you can come to the Freshwater Biome where the temperatures are a steady 72 degrees during the summer. Let me ask you when you get hot in the desert and don't have water, what do you do? Well let me say its dangerous you can get a heat stroke which can even lead to death. So your going to risk your life for some cactus seeing. In the Freshwater Biome the cold spring water is all around you, the water so clean you can drink it straight from the river, stream, or pond. So you don't have to worry about overheating or getting dehydrated. You can even go for a swim in the ponds of the Freshwater Biome. Or why go to some forest when you can have some fun in the water? Or some tall grasses where it itches you? Come to the Freshwater Biome where you can swim and have fun all day long! And not freeze to death like you can in the Tundra. Or the Taiga with highs of only 50 degrees fahrenheit and lows of 30 degrees fahrenheit. With artic gusts making it sometimes 0 degress fahrenheit. No, No, No come to the Freshwater Biome were you don't need to wear 7 layers of clothing to be comfortable. How about the Ocean Biome. With all those jellyfish, sharks, stingrays, and undertoe. All that danger around you how can you have fun. In the freshwater biome there are no sharks, stingrays, undertoe, jellyfish so you can just sit back and enjoy the view in the freshwater biome. Go in the water without feeling scared of loosing a limb or getting eaten by a shark. In the Freshwater rivers you can go canoeing, rafting, white water rafting. Ponds to fish in, to water ski in, to wave board in. All sorts of fun is waiting for you at the Freshwater biome.

Mutualism

Lichens are mutualistic associated with fungus and algae. The fungus gives the algae a tough, waterproof body that is able to survive in extreme environments on rocks and tree trunks. It is also helpful at obtaining water and secretes acids to dissolve minerals from the rocks. It also helps the algae by producing carbon dioxide so the algae can photosynthesize. All of these materials are funneled to the endosymbiotic algae so they can use photosynthesis and make sugar which is shared with the fungus.

Adaptations

Mostly all of the animals and the plants that live in the water or nearby had to adapt to all the conditions, especially the temperature. They had to adapt to whenever it gets hot or cold. Without adapting to these conditions, these plants and animals wouldn't be able to thrive here.

For example in animals, otters, badgers, minks, and fishes would have to adapt to the water in order to survive. The fishes would be most important since the otters, badgers and minks eat the fish that live in the water.

Plants like algae, duckweed, water lilies and cattails would have to adapt to the water temperature and the amount of light that gets into the water so they can live and oxygenate the waters.

Abiotic Factors

Temperature, light, soil, wind... What do these had to do with anything with the Freshwater Biome? Well, they have many things to do with it. The temperature is needed in order for the animals and plants to survive and thrive in. If it's too cold, they hibernate and if it's hot, they come out and go in the waters. Especially plants that hibernate and freeze in the water for a time being. The light is needed for plants so they can photosynthesize and oxygenate water. Also, the fish need to see underwater. The soil are for the plants. If the soil is rich, plants can use that and grow. The wind is important because of the temperature and the evaporation of the water. The wind changes the speed of the evaporation and sometimes cools the temperature down a notch.

Human Impact

There are many harmful things that are happening to these freshwaters. First of all, the water is becoming polluted by humans who dump garbage in the waters. Also, the chemicals that go into the water by rainfall, taints the water. People who go fishing for a living break the food webs on what the animals eat the certain fishes. Global warming because water is evaporating faster and the plants living around or in the water are dying because of it. Animals also slowly lose their food and their homes. Solutions: For the garbage that people dump, they shouldn't even dump the garbage in the water in the first place. They should go and clean it up and pick out the garbage in the water. For the chemicals that go into the waters, the people shouldn't pour the chemcials near the pure water at all. People fish too much and that won't allow the other people to reproduce fast enough. They can't reproduce that fast enough so they slowly disappear and die off. Global warming would be hard to stop but because people are driving a lot and the smoke that comes out of factories go up into the air and ruin the Ozone Layer. People should stop using cars as much and stop depending on gas as much as they do now. Factories should stop expelling out so much smoke that it can ruin the atmosphere.
