- This Biome includes lakes, rivers, ponds, streams and wetlands. However, wetlands aren't really considered to be freshwater. The water has less than 1% of salt concentration. Some freshwater biomes include The Great Lakes and the Amazon River. The water is even fresh enough to drink. Many animals live near freshwater because it contains the food they need in order to survive.
